Default Re: SAS learning Edition..is this any good?

Liam,
SAS learning Edition..is this any good? YES, very good. It is based
on version 8.2 (BASE,STAT,GRAPH, no AF) There are pieces missing, but
they should not be a problem.
It is probably the your only way to execute SAS that is affordable.
Despite the name, it is not a learning tool. There is very little
help with it. No tutorials worth much.
You cannot read more than a thousand rows. I doubt if the display
is crippled. I can see no reason why one interested in keeping up SAS
skills would need to process more than a thousand observations. On the
other hand, it means you cannot study efficiency issues.
It is designed to use with the Enterprise Guide interface. If you locate
SAS.EXE you can run with the display manager and submit batch jobs with an
appropriate ASCII editor, but you cannot then view SAS data sets. You can
probably download the SAS viewer free to solve this problem, or learn to
use the Enterprise Guide interface.
There is not better way to keep up SAS skills then to read and answer SAS-L
questions using the Learning Edition. I did this for over a year, and
still use it whenever I want to see how version 8 works.
There is not a better learning tool available, but you do need a way to get
started - say via books, papers, or friends.

Good luck.

Hi,
Is buying the SAS learning edition the only way I can get a copy of SAS
to keep my skills upto date? I have been unemployed for a long time.
Is it basically the full version of SAS, but it will only display the
first 1000 rows in any dataset? Or is a tutorial program!?(point and
lick affair that shows you all the basics!?)
Please advise,
Many thanks
