"Universe of discourse" This is from university I have never heard it since and am not really surprised! Philip "Richard A. DeVenezia" To: SAS-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU <rdevenezia@WILDB cc: LUE.NET> Subject: Database terminology? Sent by: "SAS(r) Discussion" <SAS-L@LISTSERV.U GA.EDU> 18/03/2006 01:47 AM Please respond to "Richard A. DeVenezia" I'm looking for the word the describes an instance of a database, meaning the set of all tables within the system and the relationships between them. I am excluding relationships to tables in other database instances. In SAS terms, the idea is all the tables and views in a libname, and all the relationships between (foreign keys) and integrity constraints of the tables. In SAS terms it the idea might be expanded to describe everything interrelated and/or constrained within the set of all object accessible through all the active libnames in a session. Is there a word better than 'schema' to describe the above? How would 'schema' used to describe above compare to the SCHEMA='foobar' one might deal with in Oracle? ************************************************** ********************** IMPORTANT - (1) The contents of this email and its attachments may be confidential and privileged.
