I can barely restrain my excitement! Can this really be true?

The very first ever Framework for Unit Testing SAS(r), or FUTS, was actually
written in the "arcane, antiquated SAS Macro Language"!!

I wonder if those taking the the "Free Distance SAS Training" could use the
free FUTS to test their new development?

I'd like to announce the availability of a free testing tool for SAS:
FUTS.



FUTS is a Framework for Unit Testing SAS(r) programs. Inspired by testing
frameworks such as JUnit and NUnit, FUTS allows programmers to write
automated unit tests in SAS for SAS. The core of FUTS is a macro library of
assert functions. The assertions allow developers to create tests that
compare macro symbols, data sets, and files produced by their SAS code. FUTS
also comes with a perl script for batch execution of test suites, automating
the process of running tests and reporting results.



I'm presenting a paper at SUGI on FUTS and Test-Driven Development titled
"Drawkcab Gnimmargorp" (Backward Programming). It's in the Applications
Development track on Monday.



At one point we were referring to FUTS as SASUnit, but decided that that
name was somewhat problematic. Some of the printed materials for SUGI will
reference the name SASUnit, which was also the title of a previous PharmaSUG
paper by co-conspirator, all-around-great-guy,
can't-say-enough-good-things-about-him, and my boss, Greg Nelson.



FUTS is available now for free download (registration required) from the

FUTS is being offered under the Eclipse Public License, an OSI-approved open
source license.
