Hi,
I am a newbie to SAS. It seems that one has to buy SAS online Doc seperately if they want the same to be available on their computer itself. Another way is to use the web link for version 9 - http://v9doc.sas.com/sasdoc/ - which gives the contents, Index and search Tabs on the top of the left pane. I have version 8.2 (& Windows XP) and when i access -http://v8doc.sas.com/sashtml/-- I dont get Contents, Index and search on the top of the left Pane. Rather the right side of the pane lists - quick tour and latest news- What is the correct link to access FREE Online doc for version 8. Also, the web site - http://support.sas.com/publishing/cdrom/index.html- says "SAS OnlineDoc - Free Web Availability (HTML)" and under this heading lists version 8 but clicking on the version 8 link doesnt get us to the online Doc? My question is whether the definition of what constitutes an online Doc different in version 8 as compared to 9? Is there a free version of Online doc of 8 available like version 9 online Doc? Also within the link http://support.sas.com/documentation...pdf/index.html - why does each of the documents in it have a four digit number (like 6982) in - http://support.sas.com/documentation..._proc_6982.pdf --. Whats the significance of these numbers? Please guide me Regards, Hari India |

Hi Richard
Im not sure what the problem is, but when i access the link http://v8doc.sas.com/sashtml/ then a page opens with violet background (probably violet) on right pane and white background on left pane. The right pane has links for "Quick tour", "Get the latest News" and "Release Notes". The left pane has no links (rather left pane is blank and bereft of any text) and as opposed to version 9 online doc it does not have "Contents", "Index" and "Search" etc on the top of the Left pane. Is it a browser problem (Win Xp with IE 6.0) but if so why should version 9 link work fine while version 8 doesnt? Regards, Hari India |

Hi,
Related to another query of my initial post, I see that "Base SAS 9.1 procedures guide" is named as - base_proc_6982 while "Base SAS 9.1.3 procedures guide" is named as base_proc_8417. Is there any naming conventions (4 digits - 6982 , 8417?) for these manuals (similar to naming conventions of Hot fixes) as it would help me in keeping track of what info I can find in these? Regards, Hari India |

Probably has something to do with the version of the JRE you have installed. -- Richard |

Hi Jim and Richard,
Thanx for you information. I got some links from Jim's post (I dont have any JRE in my system) and went to Microsoft site and then after getting redirected to Sun's web-site, the download file "jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p.exe" worked on my system. Thnx again for all the help. Regards, Hari India |

See http://support.sas.com/techsup/unote...10/010533.html and http://support.sas.com/techsup/unote...15/015108.html But you have to have the v1 HTML installed locally first. |
