I read the july post, which gives the reason for no sound as follows:-
"As VxH is a complex visual tool - no verbal commands involved - and
users are speaking different languages, I'm not sure that someone
would be happy with my English, Spanish, Romanian or Hungarian :-)

Ella "

My reponse to that is "Something is better than nothing"
The world progressed from silent movies to Talkies.......
Now we have Talkies in 100 languages and more.

It doesn't do much good in English, if you don't know English. Same
for other choices of language. (x)Harbour is very much a global
effort.

Would you prefer music? ;>)

It's true, things are changing in time - I'm no more afraid of a
conversation in American English - some day I'll redo the proper VxH
course.

According to some new studies the background music disturbs the
learning process...

Otherwise I'm not against a 3-6 month solution to improve of my spoken
English & Spanish :-)

"It doesn't do much good in English, if you don't know English."
I thought were writing all this in English and this forum is in
English.
Maybe I am wrong and it is in Mongolian and being automatically
translated into English for me.

Automatic translations are as far from perfectness, as marketing
presentations from expensive training centers...

The compiler and language was first developed by a Czech (I think).
We have massive contributions from people that speak natively German,
French, Czech, (whatever they speak in the Netherlands, Danish maybe),
Portugese, Spanish, and Italian. I've even heard native English
speakers that I'd prefer not to hear, nor try and understand...

And a good visual presentation is *always* better with voice over.

Maybe someone needs to offer to voice overs in their native language?
This is a *community* effort, after all.

What I have seen in other *community* efforts, is that there is an
initial presentation in one language and others chip in with their
translation(s).

I'm sorry for the confusion, these videos are not intended to be
"presentations".

When one attend a course for a Microsoft, Oracle or other product in
order to study for a certification exam, we are given a CD with the
educational version of the software and a number of samples.

As the author of the movies I designed the first two sets specifially
for people with difficulties in OOP and / or English language - that's
why persons with experience in visual programming do find these movies
"too easy".

From educational point of view:
- when the human brain is exposed to text, it's enforced to convert
the text in ideas, and in this way accumulates new knowledge ( the
short-term memory buffer is fed )
- when the human brain is exposed to images and / or sound, the fixing
process of the PREEXISTING informations becomes very efficient ( info
migrates from the short-term memory to the long-term memory )

In the classroom the teacher combines these two methods, that's why
the IT technonogy can only support the classic educational process,
but not to replace it.

My future plans include a subset of movies with sound too.

Best regards,

Ella
