All the best and for the rest of us VO is currently pretty stable. there are bugs like ReportPro 2 designer not properly fixed, and its pdf generator not properly enabled - but work arround [e.g. pdf995 and bullzip] exist and dare i say it, i am still waiting on the 2.8 sp3 version of rp2 designer - maybe i hold the world's last licence ofr it ... anything else can be done via geoff's methodologies but i think that grafx [viz brian] ought to tell us the following: a) what is the extent of the agreement with ca. when does it expire ? can vo ever go open source ? b) what his plans are for vo and vulcan ? is there ever going to be another release for vo ? or have we, as prediced often enough by geoff "reached the end of the road". currently somewhat disappointed, richard |

What I wonder now: I've suggested in the past that VO users wishing to have things done may join forces and hire you directly to have the work done as such a request to Grafx has always been in vain. You were willing to do so but my first call in the NG did not bring many reactions. In a later stage I had some more, so I can imagine that if I spend some more time for approaching VO users we maye have a couple of VO users wanting new or improved features and maintenance and willing to pay for that. Is this still a possibility for you to do so, or are we again depending on Grafx who's only interest is Vulcan? Dick |

richard,
I don't understand why you are still "waiting" for anything. It is what it is. It also is what it will be. Robert's efforts have left us with a tool that remarkably is actually useful in its present form (unlike before 8 years ago). What it can't deliver, we can find elsewhere and even integrate with apps built with it. I wish Robert all the best in his new work. I have no doubt there are many other projects that could benefit from his expertise. Robert,
All the best! You have been a valuable member of the community before you joined Grafx, during and hope you will continue to do so whenever you have a chance. Robert
without a doubt, VO has reached a level of stability where it will remain a very valuable tool for many years to come - just as clipper before it. and amazingly, my local pub still uses clipper software to run its tills ... part of the largest pub chain in UK. and without a doubt such stability has been due mostly to your efforts. thanks - it will keep me in a living till i depart [programming anyway]. for Geoff - denial about wot mate ... ??? for Brian - where's the policy statement ? regards richard |
