Default ntservice (VOSRVC.AEF)

Can anyone tell me why this has changed in vo2.7a ???

Both work.

METHOD Init(cAppName, cServiceName, cDisplayName, cDepends) CLASS
NTService

n := SLen(cDisplayName) + 1 <= vo 2.6

n := SLen(cDisplayName) + 2 <= vo 2.7

It's + 1 when I loaded the sample (VO2.7a), so you must have changed it sometime
in the past.
Just means your displayname has an extra (garbage) character at the end.

I'd look at cDepends though as the n = 0 test can never be TRUE and you'll
always memcopy 2 (extra) characters no matter what.

No its not - only sDepends. Either you didn't install properly or you've
overwritten the sample with your own.
